Happy Selling
The three courses
A video course series for salespeople

Reading Body Language for Ethical Sales

Learn to read what your customers are telling you before they say a word, and respond in a way that helps rather than pushes. Short video courses. No mind-reading tricks. No manipulation. Just the read every good salesperson wishes they’d been taught on day one.

You think you’re not pushy. Your customers disagree.

50%
vs
84%

Half of salespeople say they avoid being pushy. 84% of buyers say they don’t.

83%
vs
62%

83% of salespeople believe they really listen. Only 62% of buyers agree.

That gap is where sales quietly die. A customer who feels crowded rarely tells you. They smile, say “just looking,” and don’t come back.

And the salesperson? Walks away thinking it went well.

You can’t fix what you can’t see. This series teaches you to see it — while the customer is still standing in front of you.

Figures from buyer and seller perception surveys cited in consultative-selling research.

This is not a “crossed arms means defensive” course.

No party tricks

Most body-language training recycles pop psychology — like the misquoted “93% of communication is non-verbal.” We call out the myths (eye-direction lie detection, reading pupils across a shop floor) and leave them out.

No manipulation

The aim is never to get past someone’s guard. It’s to know when to step in, when to hold back, and when to let them go with a good feeling about you.

A cluster, never a single cue

Every read is a group of signals, checked against that person’s own normal. That one rule keeps you accurate — and keeps you honest.

Every sale turns on four moments. Most salespeople guess at all four.

01

The approach

Just browsing, wanting help, or stalled and needing a gentle nudge?

02

Readiness

Genuinely ready to buy — or politely stalling?

03

The “no”

A real objection worth answering, or a reflexive brush-off to respect?

04

The exit

When to stop — and how to let someone go so they come back.

Read these four moments well and “pushy” stops being something you worry about. You’ll simply know what the person in front of you needs next.

Built for people on the floor — including the ones who’ve just arrived.

Career changers

New to sales after decades doing something else? You’ve been reading people your whole working life. This series shows you how to use that on a sales floor — without turning into the salesperson you’ve always avoided.

Retail & showroom staff

Fashion, furniture, appliances, cars, property — anyone who talks to customers face to face and wants more yeses without more pressure.

Managers & owners

Give your team a shared language for what they’re seeing — so coaching becomes more useful than “just be less pushy.”

The series

Three courses. Take them in order — each one builds on the last.

Every module runs roughly two and a half to four minutes. Watch one before your shift. Try it on the floor that afternoon.

Course 1
Walk-in retail & showrooms — where the customer comes to you.
Courses 2 & 3
Any face-to-face sale — showroom, home visit, office, open inspection or across a desk.

  3. The Silent Partner’s Tells
  4. The Space Between Them

Greg Goris

From Greg Goris

I never set out to be a salesperson. With no formal qualifications and a musician’s income that didn’t cover the bills, I fell into sales out of necessity — three years selling home improvements door-to-door on commission, seven years in real estate, and thirty years in high-end musical instrument retail, including sales management.

My early results were dismal. What finally changed everything wasn’t a script or a closing technique — it was a shift in mindset: stop trying to sell people things, and start trying to help them.

Happy Selling exists for one reason: to help people sell without becoming “that salesperson.” I still work a showroom floor myself — so every lesson here is built from real encounters with real customers, not theory from a lecture hall.

Questions

Do I have to take the courses in order?

It’s strongly recommended. Read The Room sets up the four decision points; CHEF shows the signals underneath them; The Silent Partner applies both to two customers at once.

Is this about manipulating customers?

No — the opposite. Everything here is about noticing what someone needs and respecting it, including when that means stepping back or letting them leave.

I’m new to sales. Is this too advanced?

Not at all. Course 1 assumes no sales experience — and if you’ve spent years dealing with people in another career, you’ll find you already notice more than you think.

How much time does each course take?

Each course is about 15–20 minutes of video in short modules, plus a workbook and field exercises you use on the floor.

Does it only work in retail?

Read The Room is built for walk-in retail and showrooms, where customers come to you. CHEF and The Silent Partner apply to any face-to-face sale — in a showroom, on a home visit, at an open inspection or across a desk. Even outside retail, Read The Room’s four decision points are the foundation the other two build on.
